We are sad to announce that IOF Board member Carlo Gennari has recently passed away. Professor Gennari will be remembered as a valued colleague and for his great contributions to the field of bone metabolism
Carlo Gennari was president of the International Federation of Societies on Skeletal Diseases (IFSSD) from 1996 to 1998, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the European Foundation For Osteoporosis (EFFO) from 1988 to 1996. After IFSSD merged with EFFO in 1998 to form IOF, Professor Gennari became a member of the IOF Board and the IOF Committee of Scientific Advisors.
"Carlo Gennari had a remarkable career in the field of bone metabolism, with outstanding contributions in various areas such as the regulation of intestinal calcium absorption, glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis and calcitonin treatment of osteoporosis," notes IOF President Pierre D. Delmas. "In addition to his scientific leadership, Carlo was a close friend to many of us. We will miss him deeply."
Professor Gennari was professor of internal medicine at the University of Siena, Italy, and director of the Institute of Internal Medicine at the University Hospital of Siena. He authored more than 400 publications in the fields of endocrinology, calcium and phosphate metabolism, metabolic bone disease and hypertension.
