The Society of Endocrinology & Metabolism of Turkey's WOD information campaign

This year WOD activities are focused immediately before and after the 20 th of October. Prof. Dr. Tümay Sözen, head of the Osteoporosis Working Group of the Society of Endocrinology & Metabolism of Turkey, organized and facilitated a public conference to doctors and the Faculty Staff of the Health Center of the Middle East Tecnical University. Some 100 people attended the hour-long conference which was followed by an interactive question and answer session.

This was followed on the 18th of October by a similar conference to the Nursing Staff of the University Hospital. Other members of the society are also conducting seminars and conferences in
their University Hospitals as well. Nurses are considered a very good target group which might
play a very important role in enlightening the patient population ( not necessarily osteoporotic)when they contact them during normal nurse -patient
interrelations in the hospital.

On the 19th of October, another public conference will be given to women (about 300 in number )who were taught how to read and write by a civil voluntary organization and recently accomplished this task. These women live in slum areas of the city of Ankara. Then on the 21 th of october a public conference will be held for a similar population of women in
Van,which is a city located in the eastern part of
Turkey. Along with all these activities society members will make appearances or speeches on local or National TV Channels or radio broadcasts.
