A Successful Meeting Held at a Dead Sea Resort Gains Wide Media Coverage
On the occasion of the World Osteoporosis Day and the 10th anniversary of the Jordanian French Medical Association, a medical and social meeting was held under the patronage of Her Royal Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, IOF Patron. The title of the meeting was "Recent Advances In Osteoporosis ". It was co-organized by The Jordanian Osteoporosis Prevention Society and the Jordanian French Medical Association with the support of the IOF and sponsored by MSD and was held on October 1st 2001 at the Movenpick Resort – Dead Sea.
The program (PDF, 17 KB), attended by guests from France, Egypt, Palestine, Emirates, Lebanon and Jordan, was divided into a Medical and a Public session. The assembly was honoured by the presence of Her Majesty the Queen who spoke at the opening ceremony – See Queen Rania's speech (PDF, 26 KB).

The audience was addressed by His Excellency M. Bernard Emié, the French Ambassador in Jordan see address; PDF 16 KB) and by Dr. Ghassan Maalouf, IOF Board Member and Chairman of the Lebanese Osteoporosis Prevention Society, who gave a speech on behalf of Prof. Pierre D. Delmas, IOF President (see speech in French, English and Arabic; PDF 84 KB).
Dr. Basel Masri
Among the presentations were those by officials of IOF member societies from Jordan and Palestine. Dr Basel Masri of the Jordanian Osteoporosis Prevention Society discussed case studies in antiresorptive therapies (see abstract, PDF 22 KB) and Dr. Elias Saba of the Palestinian Osteoporosis Prevention Society spoke on risk factors for osteoporosis (see abstract, PDF, 7 KB). Prof. Maurice Audran gave a lecture on Osteoporosis in Men and Prof. Samir El Badawi, President of the Pan Arab Osteoporosis Society, spoke on behalf of Prof. Pierre D. Delmas on state-of-the-art treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis (see abstracts, PDF 47 KB).
The event was a major success attended by 320 guests, ranging from specialized doctors and JOPS members to the local public. The meetings ended with a lively question and answer session, later followed by dinner by the pool.
It is our hope that such an event is repeated in many places for the benefit it has had on the campaign against osteoporosis. The event was fully covered by the local and international media. Videos are also available.
