First Lady attends osteoporosis awareness event in Nicosia
The Cyprus Society Against Osteoporosis organised an afternoon for public awareness on osteoporosis on
October 27 in conjunction with World Osteoporosis Day.
Held atthe Cyprus Hilton Hotel Nicosia, the event attracted some 400 people. Held in memory of the founder and first president of the society, Dr Petros Petrou who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly 10 months ago at a young age, the event was held
under the auspices of the wife of the Cyprus President,Mrs Fotini Papadopoulou.
The speakers included an Endocrinologist on the secondary causes of osteoporosis,a gynaecologist on the menopause,an orthopaedic surgeon on osteoporotic fractures,a radiologist on measurement of bone density and a rheumatologist on the treatment options. The speakers then took questions from the public.Entrance to this event was free and it was publicised on national television, radio and press.The meeting was preceeded by a live interview on the national(and largest) Cyprus television station around 9 am. The closing messages were focused on osteoporosis in men.
