Osteoporosis Concern Groups and Women Organization
to Conquer Osteoporosis in Hong Kong
(Hong Kong, 24 October 2004) International Osteoporosis Foundation, Hong Kong Osteoporosis Foundation, Osteoporosis Society of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Federation of Women, the Osteoporosis Centre, University of Hong Kong, and The Chinese University of Hong Kong Jockey Club Centre for Osteoporosis Care and Control today jointly organised World Osteoporosis Day 2004 Health Exhibition. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the event, medical experts urged Hong Kong people to take action to prevent osteoporosis.
Dr. Edith Lau, president of Hong Kong Osteoporosis Foundation, said, "Osteoporosis takes away our bone mass without symptoms. With the aging population in Hong Kong, osteoporosis is a threat to Hong Kong, especially those postmenopausal women."
Prof. Annie Kung, president of Osteoporosis Society of Hong Kong, said,"Hong Kong people should receive bone density test regularly, to have early diagnosis of osteoporosis."
In addition to Dr. Lau and Prof. Kung, Dr. Lam Ping-yan, director of the Department of Health, and Prof. Leung Ping-chung, Director of The Chinese University of Hong Kong Jockey Club Centre for Osteoporosis Care and Control, were also the honourable guests attending the opening ceremony of the event.
