World Osteoporosis Day 2005- Exercise message has great media impact
The SAO and AAOMM held a press conference on October 17th. Journalists from TV, radio and print media attended resulting in a great media echo in the following few days. Speakers included Eduardo Nuesch, on behalf of IOF; Prof. Dr. José Zanchetta, IOF board member; Celia Marcela Casals, osteoporosis patient, and well known actress China Zorrilla.
The press conference resulted in 3 articles in main Argentine newspapers, 6 articles in local newspapers (Provinces), interviews on 4 main TV channels and
3 cable channels, 8 articles in internet news and webpages, 9 radio interviews, and 3 articles in leading
womens' magazines.Thanks to ROCHE Argentina, the societies were also able to announce a local journalism award (USD 1000.-) at the press conference.
The societies also manned a booth at the 11th World Congress on the Menopause (18-22 October)to promote the IOF World Congress on Toronto, IOF projects and publicize WOD 2005.The new IOF report 'Move it or Lose it' and posters were translated into Spanish and distributed at the booth and made available throughout Argentina and Latin America.
The congress participants were also invited to attend an IOF symposium on the 22nd of October from 3:00-4:00 pm at the Buenos Aires Sheraton Hotel. The symposium, titled OSTEOPOROSIS:Critical Review - Current Status, was chaired by Profs. D. Salica (President of the SAO) and L. Plantalech (President of the AAOMM). Talks will be given by Prof. S. Cummings (Epidemiology - The Burden of Osteoporosis), by Prof. B. Ettinger(Diagnosis - Fracture Risk Assessment) and by Prof. J. Zanchetta(Treatment and Future Directions).
