Czech societies unite to celebrate WOD 2005
To celebrate WOD 2005, four differnt WOD activities were held by the Czech National Osteoporosis Forum (CNOF), an umbrella organisation uniting both IOF members, the Czech Society for Metabolic Skeletal Diseases and the Czech Osteoporosis League.
First a press conference was held on October 14 about awareness and possibilities of osteoporosis prevention with accent to physical activity, with 24 journalists present. Short lectures were presented Dr Milan Cabrnoch, MEP, member of European Parliament´s Osteoporosis Interest Group; Dr Milan Bayer, scientific secretary of Czech Society for Metabolic Skeletal Diseases; Dr Aleš Skøivánek, member of Committee of Czech Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics; and Olga Šípková, former world champion in aerobics.
On Thursday, October 20, WOD and osteoporosis was discussed on a morning TV program.
The same day, public hours of aerobics were organised under surveillance of experienced instructors at several Czech cities. The dairy industry supported this event with dairy products – yoghourts.
On November 10, a seminar about epidemiology, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoporosis was held at Czech parliament (with participation of Dr Milan Cabrnoch, MEP; Prof Vladimír Palièka, president of Czech Society for Metabolic Skeletal Diseases).
