Kuratorium Knochengesundheit

Move it or Lose it! - Berlin enthusiastically celebrated World Osteoporosis Day 2005

Entertainment and encouragement to take exercises - senior ballet dancers, men at the age of 70 and older!

For World Osteoporosis Day 2005 the Kuratorium Knochengesundheit e.V. initiated a huge public event in Berlin. It was held on Friday, October 21, and conducted by the Kuratorium's president, Dr. Jutta Semler, in coopertation with other important umbrella organizations, like the "Berufsverband der Fachärzte für Orthopädie" (BVO, orthopaedic surgeons), the "Osteoporose-Selbsthilfegruppen-Dachverband" (OSD, patient support groups), the Immanuel Krankenhaus Berlin (hospital were Dr. Semler is head doctor), the German section of the Bone and Joint Decade (BJD), the "Deutscher Nordic Walking and Inline Verband" (DNV), the Kieser Training GmbH (fitness centres) and the "Berliner Turnerbund" (gym association).

The halls were crowded. About 2000 vistors came to join in diverse risk and fitness tests, to talk and listen to experts and physicians, to learn about the importance of exercises, to take a Nordic BONE Walking-Workshop and to enjoy Tai Chi and other exercise related activities ...

New: On World Osteoporosis Day 2005 the Kuratorium Knochengesundheit e.V. and the "Deutscher Nordic Walking und Inline Verband" (DNV) started a new initiative, called Nordic BONE Walking. It set up a special training course for physiotherapists and other professionals teaching exercises. The event in Berlin gave a first insight in what Nordic BONE Walking is about:

Everybody had fun with the special presentation of senior ballet dancers:

The event was very successful - due to diverse and free risk and fitness tests, to many exercises related activities and last but not least to Rosi Mittermaier, our celebrity. Many papers wrote about the event. At prime time the same day Berlin TV reported on it.
