Pierre D. DelmasIt is with great pleasure that I invite you to attend the IOF World Congress on Osteoporosis to be held in Toronto, Canada, from June 2-6, 2006. Some 4000 medical professionals attended the previous IOF World Congress on Osteoporosis, held in 2004 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. We are determined to make the Toronto event even better, with more participants, a broader scientific program and special seminars.

Osteoporosis is now recognized as a major health problem in many countries around the world. But as awareness of osteoporosis increases, so does the amount of information available. At the IOF World Congress on Osteoporosis you will have a chance to hear, and interact, with the world's experts and to view the latest data on all aspects of basic and clinical osteoporosis research, including the many new developments in bone cell biology, epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment. In addition, numerous presentations will focus on new drugs which can prevent bone loss and reduce fracture occurrence for patients with osteoporosis.

The program has been developed under the leadership of René Rizzoli by a Scientific Program Committee in collaboration with the International Osteoporosis Foundation Committee of Scientific Advisors. All aspects of osteoporosis will be covered during the Congress which will comprise of eleven lectures by invited speakers presenting cutting edge research in the field, and a large number of oral presentations selected from submitted abstracts. It also includes three poster sessions and 72 Meet the Expert Sessions covering many practical aspects of diagnosis and management of osteoporosis. Satellite symposia organized by the pharmaceutical industry and a large commercial exhibition will enhance the scientific program.

An exciting special seminar, "Weightlessness and Osteoporosis", will be held and coordinated by worldwide space agencies. The information resulting from this session will have an impact on what happens to bones during sustained periods of immobility.

The Metro Toronto Convention Center has outstanding facilities to host the meeting. The city itself offers a wide range of cultural, sightseeing and entertainment activities as reflected in the social program.

We look forward to welcoming you to Toronto for this exciting Congress, which will attract the world's leading physicians, scientists and health care professionals.

Pierre D. Delmas, M.D., Ph.D. Professor of Medicine,
Congress President, President of the International Osteoporosis Foundation

Rene RizzoliThe IOF World Congress on Osteoporosis is the best opportunity for scientists and clinicians to learn about the latest research in osteoporosis, and to share their experience with colleagues from around the world.

The IOF Committee of Scientific Advisors along with the IOF World Congress on Osteoporosis scientific committee and steering committee has taken an active role in preparing an exciting scientific program. In the plenary lectures, international experts will present information about basic science and overviews of key topics, and oral presentations will give the opportunity to young scientists to present their latest findings.

Numerous Meet the Expert Sessions will give participants the chance to interact directly with experts – you will be able to ask specific questions about a wide range of topics and discuss patients cases, including the approach applied in different regions of the world. A large poster exhibition will give hundreds of researchers the chance to show their findings, while our corporate partners will organize interesting satellite symposia that introduce new options in diagnosis and treatment. Another feature is that for the first time we will have special sessions for allied health professionals – nutritionists and dieticians, and physical therapists.

I look forward to welcoming you to Toronto.

Rene Rizzoli, M.D. Chairman, IOF Committee of Scientific Advisors
Chairman, IOF World Congress on Osteoporosis 2006 Scientific Committee

Daniel NavidIOF is honored to organize the IOF World Congress on Osteoporosis – the only global congress dedicated specifically to all aspects of osteoporosis. Besides the opportunity to learn about the latest science and developments in diagnosis and treatment and the latest socio-economic studies, participants will also have the chance to meet and learn from other physicians from around the world.

The IOF World Congress on Osteoporosis will bring together many members of the three important groups within IOF – the Committee of Scientific Advisors, the Committee of National Societies and the Committee of Corporate Advisors. IOF is the only international health federation with this comprehensive structure, allowing scientists, health care professionals, activists and industry to work together to prevent osteoporosis and improve the lives of patients around the world.

We are very proud of this global network of people who are dedicated to fighting the "silent epidemic"; my colleagues and I will be pleased to give you more information about how you can work with the IOF family.

I hope you will join us in Toronto.

Daniel Navid
Chief Executive Officer of the International Osteoporosis Foundation
